A report from Bernie Katz of Viper Days
The weekend was quite impressive with over 380 cars in attendance. They weren’t all Vipers, of course. There were Daytona Prototype cars, Grand Am Teams, ALMS teams and a mixture of teams getting geared up for the 2010 season. Viper Days had 37 cars registered. At least seven (including the ACR-X) participated in the endurance races each day. Friday’s race had ninety (90) cars. It was carnage—lots of offs and people in the tire barriers. Three Vipers had damage. I ran third in the Viper class behind Kuhno Wittmer in the ACR-X and Ben Keating on Thursday and finished second behind Ben on Friday.
The ACR-X impressed everyone. This was a test and tune weekend and drew attention from many of the participants, as did the lineup of Vipers. The X-car ran sessions in the night race with the rotors glowing. Kuno was setting some of the fastest Viper laps of the weekend, ranging around 2:09.
Dodge engineers were running full steam as was the team of mechanics. A large batch of cars have been ordered as Tom Francis with Viper Racing was there to sign folks up for delivery of their vehicles. The Dodge Viper Cup debut race is July at VIR.
